As someone who advocates for the patient's utmost comfort and safety, Dr. Hani Rayess sheds light on the benefits of IV sedation for specific procedures like facelifts, mini facelifts, and lower eyelid surgeries The Role of Anesthesia in Cosmetic SurgeryAchieving a pain-free and relaxed state is crucial for the patient's comfort. While local anesthesia is suitable for many procedures, others require a bit more than that. That is where IV sedation steps in. Understanding IV SedationIV sedation, or intravenous sedation, involves the administration of medications through an intravenous line, typically in your hand, by an anesthesiologist. The goal is to induce a state of drowsiness and relaxation to make you sleepy. You will receive short and long-acting numbing medication to numb your face. It is significantly less than the medication general anesthesia requires, where a breathing tube goes into your throat. Once your face is numb, the surgeon can proceed with the procedure. The Benefits of IV SedationSo, why choose IV sedation over other forms of anesthesia for certain cosmetic surgeries? Here are the advantages: Reduced Nausea and Brain Fog One of the standout benefits of IV sedation is the minimal post-operative side effects. Patients often report experiencing less nausea and brain fog, unlike patients who get general anesthesia. Faster Recovery Patients recover faster. In fact, we see patients getting up and walking on their own 15 to 20 minutes after the procedure. It is because of the fewer medications required to achieve numbness. Enhanced Safety IV sedation is considered a safe option for cosmetic surgeries. With a skilled anesthesiologist overseeing the process, you can rest assured that your comfort and well-being are the top priorities. Tampa Deep Plane Facelift QuestionsWill I regret a facelift? There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on the individual's expectations, motivations, and psychological factors. Some people may regret a facelift if they have unrealistic expectations, experience complications or dissatisfaction with the results, or feel pressure from external factors. On the other hand, the vast majority of people report high satisfaction rates with their facelift outcomes, increased self-confidence, and improved quality of life. It is the single most important surgery to reverse the changes to the aging face. Other procedures such as upper and lower eyelid surgery and skin resurfacing help to enhance the results. Is a facelift worth the money?Again, this depends on various factors, such as the individual's goals, budget, and overall health. However, many people consider a facelift to be worth the investment if they are seeking long-lasting and significant improvements in their facial appearance. The effects of a facelift last many years and the vast majority of patients are pleased with their outcomes. What is the best age to get a facelift? There is no fixed age at which someone should get a facelift. The timing of the procedure depends on individual factors such as skin elasticity, the extent of facial aging, and overall health. Typically, people who undergo a facelift are in their 40s to 60s, but some may choose to have it earlier or later. It is essential to consult with a qualified facial plastic surgeon to evaluate your options and determine if a facelift is the right choice for you. How many years does a facelift last? The longevity of a facelift depends on several factors, such as the surgical technique used, the extent of the procedure, and the individual's natural aging process. While a facelift cannot stop the aging process, it can help turn back the clock about 9-11 years and provide a more youthful appearance. Dr Rayess uses the deep plane facelift. This is the gold standard that gives you the longest lasting results as it places all the tension on a thick fascia as opposed to the skin. Can you tell if someone had a facelift?A well-performed facelift provides natural-looking results that are difficult to detect. This is why it is important to go to a specialist who can show you numerous before and after pictures. Some telltale signs of a facelift, include a tight or stretched appearance, visible scars, a pulled down or tethered ear or an unnatural facial expression.
Under Eye Filler vs Under Eye Surgery in TampaOne of the most common reasons I see patients is for lower eyelid concerns. Patients come in complaining of hollowness under the eye that can give a tired appearance. This can impact younger and older patients. What causes the dark circles under the eyes?Dark circles under the eye can be caused by shadow effect. It can also be caused by pigment deposition in the skin. The shadow effect is more easily corrected the superficial pigment is not. What is the shadow effect? Our eye sockets have fat in them to cushion the eyeball. As we get older the septum which holds the fat in the socket gets weaker, and the fat herniates out. This creates a bulge and a shadow underneath it. At the same time aging results in deflation and descent of the cheek. This exposes the bone that is normally covered by this cushioning. This creates the hollow appearance. What are the treatment options? In general there are 2 treatment options for patients who have under eye hollowness, surgery or filler. What does filler do?Filler is placed in the hollow area in between the fat that has herniated out and the cheek. This smoothens the transition between the lower lid and the cheek. It can last about 1 year. This can be done in the clinic. What does lower eyelid surgery involve?Surgery involves an incision on the inside of the eyelid and the excess fat is surgically removed. I then take fat from your body abdomen or lateral thighs and inject that into the hollow areas to build it back up. Why not use the fat that is removed from the under eye?Sometimes that can be done, but in general you need alot more fat to build the area up then what you can remove from the under eye.
Learn more about Chemical Peels in TampaChemical peels are used to resurface the skin. The agent is selectively applied to your skin with the purpose of exfoliating or removing the outer layer and part of the middle layer of the skin. They are considered a resurfacing procedure because once this outer layer is removed your body will regenerate a new layer of skin which will be smooth, fresh and have less wrinkles or color spots. Because of the cooler weather in the fall and winter as well as the less intense sunlight, September to March is the most popular time to get your chemical peel! What Chemical Peel Does Dr Rayess use? There are many different kinds of chemical peels. Dr Rayess’ favorite chemical peel is a TCA chemical peel (trichloro acetic acid). This chemical removes the outer layers of your skin in a controlled manner and is considered a medium depth peel. This peel should only be done by providers who are properly trained as it penetrates the skin deeper than the superficial chemical peels which are the most common ones. Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel? The TCA chemical peel is a great peel to resurface the skin in patients who have fine wrinkles in their facial skin and especially on the skin around the mouth. The chemical peel is also a good option for patients with sun spots or pigmented lesions that are a result of sun damage over the years. How do I get a chemical peel in Tampa? The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr Rayess, who will go over your medical history and your skin history to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Then you will likely need to start Retin A for at least 2-3 weeks prior to the procedure to prep your skin for the peel. This helps cleanse the outer layer of the skin so the peel can get in deeper. You will also need to avoid the sun for 2 weeks prior and 6 weeks after to minimize the risk of pigment issues after the peel. What is the process of getting the chemical peel? The peel takes about 30 minutes to perform in the office. It is better to have someone drive you over that day. We ask that you don’t wear any make up. We will then degrease your face and Dr Rayess will proceed to apply the peel. The peel will feel like a bad sun burn when it is applied. Some patients take a Tylenol to relax them during the process. Once your face is sufficiently peeled we will neutralize the peel before you go home. For the first day you won’t have to do anything. On the second day you will start cleaning your face. What is the recovery process? On the first day you go home and relax as there is nothing for you to do. On the second day you will start cleaning your face and applying the ointment according to the postop instructions. Your skin will start to peel on the 3rd day and this will last for 7 days. During this time it is critical that you do not pick at the peeling skin. You cannot apply makeup while your skin is peeling. So some downtime is critical. You must maintain good sun protection for 6 weeks after the peel to minimize the risk of any pigmentation changes. Is it a painful procedure? The most painful aspect is the application of the peel in the office. It feels like a bad sun burn. Once the peel is neutralized the burning sensation will start to fade away. How much does a full face chemical peel cost? The cost varies depending on the intensity of the peel applied and the areas to which it is applied. The range is $1400-$1700. Facelift and Minilift Cost in Tampa and Palm HarborThe topic of this blog post is going to be about the cost of a facelift procedure and the cost of a minilift. This is a question we get asked often in our practice because it's one of the more common procedures that we do and would like to give patients more insight into what the cost is, what goes into the cost and what they can expect. We believe that transparency is important and patients need to understand the cost of the procedures they are interested in. Facelift surgery is not covered by insurance therefore it is an out of pocket expense. At Rejuvenate the Face in Tampa we offer numerous financing options for our patients which you can learn more about here. When you visit our practice we give you a total price that includes the price for anesthesia, the price for the operating room/assistants and the surgeon’s practice fee. What is the average price of a mini facelift in Tampa and Palm Harbor? At our practice a mini facelift is ideal for patients in their 40s and early 50s who have early signs of aging like jowls around the jawline, deepening nasolabial folds. These patients do not have much sagging in their neck. The recovery for a mini facelift is quicker than the regular facelift and patients experience less bruising. The average price for the RJF minilift is between $8900-$10,500. This price is all inclusive including the surgeon fees and the price of the supplies. What is the difference between the RJF mini facelift and a facelift? The facelift at our practice involves lifting both the cheek and the neck. So if you have extensive sagging in the neck as well as the cheek and have banding in your neck then you will need a cheek neck lift or facelift. That procedure takes longer and involves more surgery hence the price increases to $9500-$10,400. These prices are intended to be an estimate for patients so they can understand the range of prices to expect and plan their finances accordingly. These are estimates for the total price which includes operating room fees and anesthesia fees. Why is there a range of prices? The reason for the range is certain cases are harder than others and it is difficult to list all the variables here, but for example, revision surgery usually has more scar tissue hence surgery can take longer. That is why after your consultation with the physician, where he will go over your expectations, the procedure and your medical history you will get an exact quote. Will combining procedures save me money?Yes absolutely the price of combining procedures is cheaper than performing them individually. The reason being that it is only one facility fee just longer time. Commonly patients will combine a browlift, upper or lower eyelid blepharoplasty with our mini facelift or facelift.
