The brands that are available include Botox cosmetic, Xeomin, Juveau and Dysport. Botox is used to treat wrinkles predominantly in the forehead, in between the eyes and and around the eyes, although it can be used in other parts of the face and neck. Treatment consists of removing makeup and any skin products, applying topical anesthesia for about 20 minutes and then the injection. The amount of neuromodulator needed varies by person that’s why we will see all patients back at to 2 weeks to determine if any additional treatment is needed
How do neuromodulators work?
Neuromodulators temporarily paralyze muscles. This helps soften wrinkles which are dents in the skin from repeated muscle contraction.
How Long does it take for neuromodulator to work?
On average it can take around 72 hours-2 weeks before the effects are noticed.
How long does it last?
On average the effects last for 3 months. This can vary between different people.
What are the restrictions?
On the day of injection we’ll ask you to move the muscles that were injected and avoid strenuous exercise. A card will be given at the appointment with this information. Otherwise you can return to your normal routine and even back to work the same day!
If I do it once do I need to keep on doing it?
No! The effects will wear off and your muscles will start moving again, but there is no medical necessity to get more injections. It’s all up to you.
